Caring for your ride after a winter road trip

If you’ve just got back from an awesome winter road trip the last thing you likely want to do is spend time pampering your vehicle; however, if you expert your ride to be raring to go next time you want to head off, now is the time to give it some much-needed TLC. Here we will look at a few of the most important elements to take care of ASAP.

Empty it out

The first thing you need to do is take absolutely everything out of your vehicle. Throw out any garbage; put camping gear and/or snow sports equipment back into storage; pack away any maps or guidebooks, and empty all of those various pockets, pouches, and compartments. Finally, remove any and all of those protective floor mats as well, as this will make it easier to clean them and the sections of flooring that they were covering.

Vacuum

Locate the most powerful vacuum you can find, roll up your sleeves, and spend some time going over every inch of your vehicle, including inside all of those many creases, folds, and crevices. Aside from making your ride a far more pleasant place to be, removing any food particles will prevent ants, bugs, and other critters from being encouraged to move in there.

Wash every inch

Once the inside of your vehicle is taken care of it is time to deal with the outside by giving your ride a complete and thorough washing. For best results, focus on all of those hard to reach areas, such as underneath the hood, beneath the bumper and inside the wheel wells, as these are the places where rust is most likely to establish. Don’t forget to wash and dry those floor mats too before putting them back in place.

Get some air in there

Having your gang spend hours cooped up inside your vehicle throughout the course of a winter road trip can leave it smelling a little less than pleasant, making it wise to take the time to air it out now that you are home. If weather permits, wind down your windows and go for a short drive on the highway to blast those odours out; otherwise, even just leaving it opened up and parked in your garage for a few hours can make a big difference.

Have it serviced

A road trip can be tough on a vehicle, especially those of the older variety; therefore, now is a great time to ensure that all is well. Having the oil changed and fluids topped up will ensure that your ride is running at its best and if there are any problems starting to develop it is always better to find and fix them before they grow into larger and more expensive issues.
