If you are one of the many Canadians who has just returned from an awesome road trip you are probably feeling a combination of tired, buzzed, and happy to be home; however, if you want your ride to be ready for your next adventure now is the time to give it some much-needed TLC. Here we will look at a few of the most important things you should do to care for your vehicle following any road trip.
Start by taking absolutely everything out of your vehicle. Put camping gear and sporting equipment back into storage, dispose of any litter, and put all of your various chargers and tech devices wherever they belong. Take your emergency road kit out as well, as this will make it easier to do a thorough job cleaning.
Get a hold of the most powerful vacuum you can find and go over every inch of your ride’s interior, as not only will this improve its look, it will improve the air quality and reduce the chance of attracting ants and other critters as well. If you don’t own a good vacuum and are unable to borrow one, simply visit your local car wash as they are sure to have one there.
Treat your fabrics
Find out what your vehicle’s interior fabrics are made from and use the appropriate products to clean, wipe, and treat them. Not only will this remove unsightly marks and stains, it will keep those fabrics looking great for years to come, that is, providing you reapply those treatments at least somewhat regularly.
Once the inside of your vehicle is clean it is time to wash the exterior, which means taking your time to soap and wash ALL OF IT. Pay particularly close attention to those hard to reach areas, such as the wheel wells, roof, and the underside of the vehicle, as these places are all highly susceptible to corrosion.
Find a clean spray bottle, make up a mix of 50% water and 50% vinegar, and then locate a clean rag or some newspaper. Next, spray and wipe all of your vehicle’s windows, mirrors, and glass surfaces – you’ll be amazed at the difference it makes!
Have it serviced
Take your vehicle to your local dealership or mechanic and have them conduct a thorough servicing of it, especially if you have noticed any worrying signs or sounds throughout the course of your trip. Regardless, ensuring that all is well with your vehicle will keep it running at its best and can mean catching small issues before they get worse.
